What type of visa should foreigners obtain when visiting China

China continues to expand the scope of visa-free, up to now, China has realized a comprehensive visa-free access to China for citizens of 36 countries holding ordinary passports, citizens of visa-free countries can enter China directly without a visa to enjoy the convenience of tourism, business, visiting relatives and so on. But citizens of other countries still need to apply for a visa to come to China, the specific need to apply for which kind of visa it, we can first understand the types of Chinese visa.

01、L-visa

L visa is issued to inbound tourists.

02、G-visa

Visa G is issued to individuals passing through China.

03、Z-visa

Z visa is issued to individuals applying to work within China.

04、R-visa

The R-visa is issued to foreign high-level talents and urgently needed specialized talents that China needs.

05、M-visa

M-visa is issued to individuals traveling to China for commercial and trade activities.

06、C-visa

C-type visas are issued to international train attendants, international aircraft crew members, crew members of international vessels, their accompanying family members, and car drivers engaged in international road transportation who carry out crew, aviation, and shipping tasks.

07、D-visa

D-visa is issued to individuals who enter China for permanent residency.

08、F-visa

F-type visas are issued to individuals who engage in activities such as exchanges, visits, and inspections in China.

09、Visa Q1 and Q2

(1) Visa Q1 is issued to family members of Chinese citizens (spouse, parents, children, children's spouse, brothers and sisters, grandparents, maternal grandparents, grandchildren, grandchildren and spouse's parents) who apply for residence in China due to family reunification, and family members of foreigners with permanent residence qualifications in China (spouse, parents, children, children's spouse, brothers and sisters, grandparents, maternal grandparents, grandchildren, grandchildren and spouse's parents), as well as those who apply for entry and residence due to foster care and other reasons.

(2) The Q2 visa is issued to the relatives of Chinese citizens residing in China for short-term (not exceeding 180 days) family visits and the relatives of foreigners with permanent residency in China.

10、S1 and S2 visas

(1) S1 visa is issued to the spouses, parents, children under the age of 18, parents of foreign nationals who reside in China for long-term (over 180 days) family visits due to work, study, or other reasons, as well as to individuals who need to reside in China for other personal affairs.

(2) Visa S2 is issued to family members (spouses, parents, children, children's spouses, brothers and sisters, grandparents, foreign grandparents, grandchildren, foreign grandchildren and parents of spouses) of foreigners who stay in China for work, study and other reasons to visit their relatives for a short period of time (no more than 180 days), as well as those who need to stay in China for other personal matters.

11、Visa X1, X2

(1) The X1 visa is issued to individuals who have been studying in China for a long period of time (over 180 days).

(2) The X2 visa is issued to individuals studying in China for a short period of time (not exceeding 180 days).

12、J1 and J2 visas

(1) J1 visa, issued to foreign resident journalists who reside in Chinese news agencies for more than 180 days.

(2) J2 visa, issued to foreign journalists traveling to China for short-term (stay not exceeding 180 days) interviews and reporting.
