Spring Festival Holiday: 22.05 Million Air Passengers

On February 24th, according to the information released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (hereinafter referred to as "CAAC"), during the 9-day Spring Festival holiday from February 15th to February 23rd, the national civil aviation industry transported a total of 22.05 million passengers and ensured 171,000 flights. The daily average was 2.45 million passengers and 18,956 flights, both showing a year-on-year growth of 7.7% and 4.4% respectively compared to the same period of the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush; the flight operation rate reached 95.8%, an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period of the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush. Among them, on February 23rd, 2026 (the 7th day of the Spring Festival), the national civil aviation industry transported 2.668 million passengers, an increase of 7.6% compared to the same period of the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush, setting a new record high; it ensured 19,601 flights, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period of the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush.

Meanwhile, some listed airlines have also disclosed data related to the Spring Festival travel rush.

During the 9-day Spring Festival holiday, China Eastern Airlines Corporation transported over 4.33 million passengers in total, with an average daily transportation of over 481,000 passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. It also executed 28,500 flights in total, with an average daily number of over 3,169 flights, showing a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. Among them, the peak passenger flow occurred on February 22nd (the sixth day of the Spring Festival), when the airline executed 3,287 flights and transported 526,000 passengers, setting a new record for the airline's single-day passenger transportation volume.

Data released by China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd. shows that from February 15th to February 23rd, the airline operated over 27,000 passenger flights, transporting nearly 4.65 million passengers, representing a year-on-year growth of nearly 7%.

According to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, all civil aviation units have earnestly implemented the relevant requirements for ensuring the safety, stability and smoothness of civil aviation operations during the Spring Festival holiday. Domestically, the popular airports mainly include Guangzhou Baiyun, Shanghai Pudong, Shenzhen Bao'an, Beijing Capital, Chengdu Tianfu, Beijing Daxing, Chongqing Jiangbei, Kunming Changshui, Xi'an Xianyang, and Hangzhou Xiaoshan; the popular routes (one-way) mainly include Shanghai Hongqiao - Beijing Capital, Shanghai Hongqiao - Shenzhen Bao'an, Shanghai Hongqiao - Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao'an - Shanghai Hongqiao, Guangzhou Baiyun - Shanghai Hongqiao, Beijing Capital - Shanghai Hongqiao, Shenzhen Bao'an - Beijing Capital, Beijing Capital - Shenzhen Bao'an, Guangzhou Baiyun - Hangzhou Xiaoshan, and Harbin Taiping - Shanghai Pudong.

Furthermore, to cope with the peak of outbound passenger flow in Hainan region, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has organized airlines to increase seat supply by means of overtime work and deploying larger aircraft, in an effort to fully meet passengers' travel demands.

It is also known that many listed airlines have increased their flight services during the Spring Festival holiday. Take China International Airlines Co., Ltd. as an example. The airline has added flights from Haikou Meilan to Beijing Capital and other airports from February 23rd to February 25th.

Internationally, data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China shows that the most popular airports for both entry and exit include Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou Baiyun, Beijing Capital, Chengdu Tianfu, Shenzhen Bao'an, Xiamen Gaoqi, Kunming Changshui, Beijing Daxing, Hangzhou Xiaoshan and Chongqing Jiangbei, etc. The most popular destinations are mainly in countries such as Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Russia and Australia. Among them, the passenger volume from China to countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Maldives, Kazakhstan and others has increased significantly year-on-year. With the promotion of the extended holiday, the passenger volume on long-distance routes from China to countries such as Turkey, Australia, Russia, Spain and New Zealand has also increased significantly.

Meanwhile, the inbound tourism market continues to grow, with significant increases in the number of tourists from countries such as South Korea, Vietnam, and Russia coming to China.
