China Expands 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy to 55 Countries

Release time:2025-06-13    |    Number of views:

The National Immigration Administration officially announced on June 12 the implementation of a 240-hour visa-free transit policy for Indonesian citizens, expanding the scope of visa-free transit eligibility to 55 countries. Under this updated policy, foreign nationals from 55 countries including Indonesia, Russia, and the United Kingdom who hold valid international travel documents and confirmed onward tickets with dates and seat assignments may enter China without a visa through any of the 60 designated ports across 24 provincial-level administrative regions when transiting to a third country (or region). They are permitted to conduct short-term activities within designated areas for a maximum stay of 10 days.

According to the regulations, visa-free entrants may engage in conventional activities such as tourism, business negotiations, friendly visits, and family reunions during their stay. However, activities requiring prior approval—including employment, studies, and journalistic reporting—must follow standard visa application procedures. The Administration emphasized that this policy adjustment aligns with the guidelines of the Central Conference on Peripheral Diplomatic Work and serves as a significant measure to deepen strategic cooperation between China and ASEAN nations. It not only reinforces positive momentum in China-Indonesia bilateral cooperation but also injects new impetus into regional trade and investment liberalization, while fostering cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between peoples.

A relevant official stated that China will continue to promote institutional opening-up in immigration management, dynamically optimize entry-exit facilitation measures, and comprehensively enhance the experience of foreign nationals living and traveling in China. By delivering higher-quality government services, the country aims to welcome global guests and contribute to building an open, inclusive environment for international exchanges.
