Visa-Free List Expands as China Steps Up High-Level Opening-Up

Release time:2025-06-20    |    Number of views:

China continues to optimize its entry policies. Following the implementation of unilateral visa-free policies for ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain on June 9th, Indonesia has been included in the scope of China's 240-hour transit visa-free policy starting from June 12th.

Enhanced Services at Border Ports

From "China Travel" to "China Shopping," the enthusiasm for foreigners visiting China continues to surge, with policy dividends transforming into tangible convenience and warmth at border ports.

With the deepening of institutional openness in immigration management, China has introduced a series of convenient policies for foreigners visiting China in recent years, including the 240-hour transit visa-free policy. The growing interest in "China Travel" among foreign tourists is deeply felt by Tong Yu at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Statistics show that last year, foreigners entering China through the Baiyun Airport border port came from 195 countries and regions, with a total of over 2.37 million entries, marking a year-on-year increase of 92.6%. In the first five months of this year, the number of foreign entries through the Baiyun Airport border port has exceeded 1.2 million, representing a year-on-year growth of 41.7%.

Continued Release of Visa-Free Policy Dividends

Starting from June 9th, China has implemented a trial visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. From June 9th, 2025, to June 8th, 2026, ordinary passport holders from these four countries may enter China without a visa for purposes such as business, tourism, visiting relatives, exchange visits, and transit, provided their stay does not exceed 30 days. Combined with the comprehensive mutual visa exemptions with the UAE and Qatar in 2018, China has now achieved "full coverage" of visa-free policies for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that the expanding "list" of visa-free countries demonstrates China's firm determination to continuously advance high-level opening-up. China will continue to optimize entry policies, expand the scope of visa-free countries, and invite more foreign friends to experience higher-quality products, more diversified consumption scenarios, and more convenient service guarantees in China. Through broader openness and deeper cooperation, China aims to share prosperity with all countries.

Greater Convenience for Travel and Life in China

The Khunjerab Pass, located in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang, is situated in the core area of the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor." It is a first-class border port approved by the state for opening to the outside world and serves as the sole land port between China and Pakistan. Since December 2024, it has transitioned from seasonal operation to year-round openness.

On April 9th, over 150 travelers from Malaysia, South Korea, the United States, and other countries and regions entered China through the Khunjerab Pass, with 21 tourists benefiting from the visa-free policy. In the joint inspection hall, all inspection channels were fully operational to ensure safe and smooth border clearance with optimal efficiency.

In response to the growing number of cross-border travelers, the Khunjerab Immigration Inspection Station has introduced over 10 innovative service measures, including expedited clearance, centralized inspection, advance distribution of "Foreigner Entry Cards," dedicated channels, and emergency channels. These measures have reduced the on-site inspection time for travelers by 30%.

A representative from the National Immigration Administration stated that the administration will continue to advance institutional openness in immigration management, optimize convenient entry-exit policies for immigrants, enhance the convenience of travel and life in China for foreigners, and welcome more foreign friends to China with superior management and service measures.
